On June 30th, local time, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahi stated in Tehran during an interview with CBS that the premise for Iran to resume negotiations with the United States is ensuring that the United States will not attack Iran during the negotiation period. Given this, he believes that resuming negotiations will still take some time.
When asked about President Trump’s claim that talks between the U.S. and Iran might resume this week, Amir-Abdollahi said he does not think negotiations will restart so soon.
Amir-Abdollahi mentioned that the prerequisite for Iran to rejoin negotiations is to ensure that the United States will not launch another military attack on Iran during the negotiation period. “I believe, given all these considerations, we still need more time.”
However, Amir-Abdollahi emphasized that Iran’s “door of diplomacy will never close.”
Since April this year, the United States and Iran have held five rounds of indirect talks, discussing the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions against Iran. The sixth round of talks was scheduled to take place in Oman on June 15th, but it was canceled due to an Israeli raid on Iran in the early hours of June 13th. (News)
