On June 29th, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung nominated the Democratic Party lawmaker Choi Sang-ho as the Minister of Justice, and appointed lawyer Feng Xu as the Chief Secretary of the Presidential Office. South Korean public opinion suggests that this indicates the new government’s determination to rapidly advance reforms in the prosecutorial system. The reforms may include the separation of investigative and prosecutorial powers within the judicial branch.
