On June 30th, local time, it was learned that former US Presidents Obama and Bush, in a rare public statement, questioned the Trump administration’s decision to dissolve the United States Agency for International Development.
The two former presidents, one from the Democratic Party and the other from the Republican Party, delivered their speeches via video to staff at the agency. Obama described Trump’s action as “a huge mistake.” Bush discussed Trump’s cuts to the “Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
According to US media reports in March, the Trump administration had informed Congress that it would dismantle almost all remaining positions at the agency and close the institution. (Zhao Miao, CCTV)
