On July 1st, local time, the “Sudan Founding Alliance,” a coalition formed by the Sudan Rapid Support Force and its allied political forces, announced the establishment of its leadership body. The leader of the Rapid Support Force, Dagalo, became the leader of the alliance. The “Sudan Founding Alliance” held a press conference in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State in western Sudan, on the same day, announcing the formation of a leadership body consisting of 31 members. Dagalo served as the leader of the alliance, with Hirwe, the leader of the local armed group “Sudan People’s Liberation Movement” in the region, serving as the second leader. The alliance also stated that it is open to all political, civilian, and military forces opposing the “old Sudan,” and expressed its hope for a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Sudan.
The Sudan Rapid Support Force and its allies signed a political charter in Nairobi, Kenya, on February 22nd, 2023, to form the “Sudan Founding Alliance.” The Sudanese government had previously repeatedly opposed the formation of a political alliance by the Rapid Support Force and its allies.
On April 15th, 2023, armed clashes broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force in Khartoum, which then spread to other areas.
