According to reports from CNN and The New York Post, U.S. President Donald Trump announced an “astonishing plan” on the 3rd local time, stating his intention to host a Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at the White House, with up to 25,000 spectators, as part of a series of events commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States’ founding.
CNN reported that during his speech at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, Trump mentioned, “Every battlefield park and historical site in our country will host special events to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.” He added, “We will also hold a UFC event, just imagine it, right on the White House grounds.”
CNN stated that White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed the plan and expressed Trump’s “great seriousness” about it. Additionally, a UFC staff member mentioned, “We are discussing hosting a UFC event on site at the White House,” but no further details have been disclosed yet.
CNN noted that Trump has long maintained connections with UFC and its president Dana White. During the 2024 U.S. presidential election, White was also a key supporter for Trump.
However, Trump’s idea has sparked controversy. The New York Post commented that holding a “bloody cage match” at the White House venue could likely attract criticism. In the comments section below a related post on social media platform X, opinions varied.
Some users supported the idea, considering it “cool.”
Yet, many others expressed reservations about the plan. Some users directly criticized it as “extremely absurd.”
Additionally, some commented that “the White House should pay tribute to service and unity. Fight Night is out of step with the 250-year tradition.”
