On July 8th, the Japanese Prime Minister’s official residence hosted a comprehensive strategy headquarters meeting. During the meeting, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga expressed “great regret” over the United States’ renewed tariff increase and instructed relevant ministers to continue negotiations until August 1st, aiming for a mutually beneficial agreement that safeguards Japan’s national interests.
Suga stated that the Japanese government will not waver in its stance on defending national interests in future negotiations, “We will continue to negotiate with the United States, while safeguarding our national interests, exploring the possibility of reaching mutually beneficial agreements.”
Addressing the failure of multiple rounds of negotiations between Japan and the US to reach an agreement, Suga remarked, “The Japanese government avoids easy compromises. We must insist on demands and protect what is necessary, continuing to engage in firm consultations.” (Xinhua News Agency)
