On July 8th, local time, the Ministry of Health in Sudan announced that since the outbreak of the latest round of cholera in July 2024, the epidemic has spread to 17 out of the country’s 18 states. A total of 84,531 cases have been reported, including 2,145 deaths.
The Ministry of Health stated that in addition to the cholera outbreak, the current dengue fever and measles epidemics in Sudan are also severe. There have been a total of 13,314 dengue fever cases reported, with 21 deaths; and a total of 2,547 measles cases reported, including 6 deaths. The Ministry also mentioned that most states are facing shortages in anti-epidemic drugs and supplies, with some state’s stockpiles of anti-epidemic materials only meeting about half of their needs.
