On July 8th, local time, the airport in Bergamo, Milan, Italy, was temporarily halted due to a runway incident.
The Bergamo-Milan Airport Authority reported that due to issues on the taxiway, all flights at the Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport were suspended from 10:20 AM to 12:00 PM that day.
Local media reported that an airport official, who wished not to be named, mentioned that someone ran onto the apron during takeoff of an airplane and was sucked into the engine.
This incident involved a Boeing A319 operated by Volotea Airlines, which was preparing to fly to Asturias, Spain.
According to Urban Express, a 35-year-old man entered the taxiway area and suddenly ran towards the front of the plane during its taxi phase, being sucked into the engine by the operating engine. The involved flight was operated by Volotea Airlines. The airport was shut down for several hours, with 19 flights being canceled.
