On the morning of September 9th, local time, the General Station learned that South Korea had returned six North Korean residents to North Korea.
According to reports from South Korean media, citing information from South Korean government departments, the South Korean government transferred six North Korean residents previously drifting at sea and rescued by the South Korean side to a patrol boat dispatched by North Korea on the eastern coast of the peninsula on the morning of September 9th. The personnel exchange was completed at the agreed-upon rendezvous point.
The South Korean government stated that these North Korean residents had repeatedly expressed their desire to return to North Korea during their stay in South Korea. On July 7th this month, the Ministry of Unification had indicated that it would respect the opinions of the relevant individuals as soon as possible and deliver them back to North Korea with a humanitarian spirit.
It is reported that these six North Korean residents were rescued by South Korean military forces while drifting at sea in the western and eastern parts of the peninsula in March and May this year. (General Station, Tang Xin)
