On July 8th, local time, the Supreme Court of the United States revoked a lower court order that had prevented nearly 20 federal agencies from conducting mass layoffs. Media reports suggest this move cleared the way for the Trump administration to restart reorganization and reduce the size of the federal government.
It was reported on May 22nd that a judge in the San Francisco District Court ruled that the Trump administration could not implement mass layoffs in about 20 federal agencies. The ruling also stated that the president only has the authority to reorganize government agencies with congressional authorization. Following the announcement of the ruling, the Trump administration requested a temporary suspension of its enforcement until the appeals process is completed, but this request was rejected by the appellate court. Subsequently, the Trump administration sought intervention from the Supreme Court. (Zhao Miao, CCTV)
