The Los Angeles Fire Department in California, USA, reported on the 9th that a tunnel collapse incident occurred in the Wilmington area of the city, trapping 15 people.
Search and rescue personnel are currently unable to contact the trapped individuals, and it appears that the collapse has damaged communication lines. The search and rescue team stated that the collapse site is approximately 9.66 kilometers away from the only entrance of the tunnel.
It is known that the tunnel in question is part of the $630.5 million Los Angeles sewage disposal tunnel project. According to the official website of the general contractor company, the tunnel spans approximately 11.27 kilometers in length, with a width of about 5.5 meters, and is located approximately 137 meters underground. It is scheduled to be completed by 2027. The excavation work for the tunnel is planned to be completed by 2025.
