On July 10th, the Ukrainian National Security Service’s press office revealed that an officer from the Ukrainian National Security Service was shot dead in the Khodovsky district of Kyiv.
Earlier that day, the police reported a shooting incident in the area and stated that law enforcement officers discovered the body of a man who had been fatally shot. The press office of the Ukrainian National Security Service stated, “The Ukrainian National Security Service and the National Police are taking measures to investigate the criminal case and will bring the perpetrators to justice.”
At present, the victim’s name has not been disclosed, and the identity and motive behind the suspect remain unclear.
However, on social media, former Ukrainian National Security Service official Roman Chervenski wrote expressing grief for the loss of his colleague, Ivan Voronych, a colonel in the Ukrainian National Security Service. Chervenski said, “Today is a loss for me personally and for many patriotic Ukrainian National Security Service employees. The respected officer Ivan Voronych was murdered by the criminals.” According to him, Voronych was responsible for some actions against Russia initiated by the Ukrainian National Security Service.
The closed-circuit television footage released by the police showed Colonel Ivan Voronych walking in the Khodovsky district when a man approached him. The killer, wearing a black T-shirt and shorts and wearing a mask, suddenly appeared from behind a car and fired a close-range shot at the 50-year-old colonel while he was crossing the street. It is believed that the shooter used a silencer on his pistol. Surveillance footage showed the killer firing five shots before fleeing along the road after committing the crime.
