[Report] According to reports from the US media outlets Newsweek and The Beast, an Iranian official recently made a comparison in a discussion about the country’s military technology, suggesting that President Trump might be attacked by micro-drones while sunbathing. He also implied that Iran would fight “like men,” refusing to resort to such assassination methods. Trump responded to this on the 9th of the local time.
The Iranian news website IRNA reported that during an interview, the senior advisor of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mohammad Javad Razavi, mentioned, “Trump has done something that he can no longer sunbathe at the Oval Office.” He stated that because when Trump is sunbathing, micro-drones might launch attacks.
Newsweek commented that Razavi seemed casually to make this statement while comparing Iran’s military technological superiority over the United States. However, he later added, “Of course, we will fight like men,” indicating that Iran would not resort to such methods.
A spokesperson for the US Secret Service (USSS) could not comment on specific intelligence protection matters during an interview. The spokesperson also mentioned in a statement, “Our threat environment is severe and rapidly changing. The safety and security of our president and all our protectees are always our top priority.”
The Beast reported that on the 9th of the local time, Trump mentioned this issue during an interview at the White House, asking if he believed it was a real threat and when he last sunbathed.
Trump first addressed the question of sunbathing, “That was a long time ago. I don’t remember, maybe around seven years old. I don’t really enjoy sunbathing.”
Regarding whether the remarks of the Iranian official constituted a real threat, Trump gave a vague response with his signature style of “negation and affirmation.” “Yes, I guess it’s a threat. But I’m not sure if it’s really a threat, but it could be.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on June 16 that he did not rule out assassinating Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stating it would “end the conflict.” On June 27, President Trump claimed on social media that he knew where Khamenei was hiding but did not let Israel or the US armed forces end his life, “I saved his life.” Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian condemned Trump’s remarks on June 28, calling them “disrespectful and unacceptable” and stating, “We know our value, cherish our independence, and will never allow others to decide our fate.”
