The police in Kerr County, Texas, USA, reported that as of the morning of July 9th Central Time,
A flood disaster has resulted in at least 119 deaths in central Texas. As search and rescue operations continue, the death toll is expected to rise.
Kerr County Police Chief Larry Lesser stated on July 9th that at least 161 people are missing, including five girls and one camp counselor still unaccounted for in the “Mystery Camp” summer camp by the Guadalupe River.
On July 9th, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered a half-staff flag across the state until sunrise on July 14th to mourn the victims of the flood disaster.
The severity of the flood disaster in Texas shocked the entire nation. Currently, an increasing number of Americans question the weather forecasts, flood warnings, and federal and local government responses during this disaster. Democrats have called for an investigation into the performance of the Trump administration’s responsibilities. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed that the flood was “God’s will,” while the meteorological department fulfilled its duties.
Furthermore, officials from New Mexico announced on July 9th that a village in the southern part of the state experienced a flash flood on July 8th, resulting in three deaths. As of the morning of July 9th, there were no reports of missing persons.
According to data from the National Weather Service, over the past decade, the United States has averaged 113 deaths due to floods each year, accounting for about one-sixth of all weather-related deaths.
