Lebanon’s President Joseph Oun stated on July 11 that Lebanon currently does not include normalizing relations with Israel on its agenda, emphasizing the priority is to maintain peace rather than establishing formal relations.
According to a statement released by the Lebanese Presidency, Oun said during his meeting with a delegation from the Arab and International Relations Commission, a think tank based in Qatar, “Peace means a state of non-war, which is what Lebanon is most concerned about at present.”
Oun reiterated that the Lebanese government will commit to fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701. He accused Israel of fabricating excuses to undermine international agreements, stating that the actions taken by Israel are continuously exacerbating tensions in southern Lebanon and other regions.
Furthermore, Oun expressed that the unity of the Lebanese people is crucial for overcoming current challenges, ensuring that national policies that ensure weapons are only held by legitimate institutions remain unchanged. (Xinhua News Agency)
