On July 12th, local time, President Donald Trump posted a letter on the social media platform “Reality Social” to Mexico and the European Union, announcing that starting from August 1, 2025, the United States will impose tariffs of 30% on imported products from Mexico and the EU.
In the letter, Trump stated that if Mexico achieves substantive results in combating drug cartels and preventing the flow of Fentanyl, or if the EU is willing to open its trade markets to the United States, eliminate tariffs, non-tariff policies, and other trade barriers, the U.S. might consider making corresponding adjustments to its tariff policy.
