Recently, our institution has received several calls from Chinese citizens who have been scammed by individuals posing as embassy officials. It is understood that after receiving calls purportedly from the “12308 embassies and consulates hotline”, the callers would claim that the recipient’s documents were in question and requested them to cooperate with the embassy by providing additional personal information. Upon verification, it was confirmed that none of the recipients had any issues with their documents. The aforementioned claims were part of a scam designed to trap victims, potentially demanding payment of a guarantee deposit under false pretenses by fake public security authorities, leading to significant financial losses.
Our institution advises Chinese citizens in Singapore to enhance their awareness against telecommunication fraud and to adhere to the principle of “three uns” – do not click on unknown links, do not trust calls from strangers, do not disclose personal information, and verify transactions multiple times. In case of suspicious calls, please promptly dial our embassies and consulates hotline at +65 64750165 for verification. Do not easily provide personal identification numbers, bank account details, home addresses, or captcha codes.
