In response to the United States’ tariffs on EU goods, the European Commission has stated that if trade negotiations between the US and Europe fail, the EU is prepared to impose additional countervailing duties on $72 billion worth of US imports. According to reports from multiple media outlets on the 15th, the EU’s list of retaliatory measures against the US includes high-value items such as aircraft, automobiles, chemicals, and electrical equipment, as well as other products like whiskey and nails.

It is understood that the EU’s list of retaliatory measures against the US consists of 202 pages, covering both high-value items such as American-made aircraft, automobiles, chemicals, and electrical equipment, as well as other products like whiskey and nails.
Previously, the EU had planned to impose a 50% tariff on bourbon whiskey produced in Kentucky, with President Trump responding that if the EU implemented related tariffs, the US would impose a 200% countervailing duty on EU wine products.
German Chancellor: Do Not Underestimate the Will of the EU to Retaliate with Tariffs
On the 15th, German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that the US should not underestimate the willingness of the EU to take retaliatory tariff measures.

Merkel also mentioned that the EU is currently “moderating” its retaliatory actions in an effort to find a quick solution to the tariff dispute.
The European Commissioner responsible for trade and economic security, Severino Schavrovic, will continue talks with the US Trade Representative on the 15th, having previously spoken with US Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. The European Commission expressed its hope for “good results” in the tariff deadlock.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on the 13th that she would extend the suspension period for retaliatory measures against US tariffs until early August, a move that has raised questions within the EU.
