The European Union once again reviewed the 18th round of sanctions against Russia, without reaching a consensus.
The day before, EU member states’ foreign ministers convened in Brussels, Belgium, to discuss the 18th round of sanctions against Russia. Due to opposition from countries like Slovakia, the plan failed to pass unanimously.
On June 2nd, the European Commission announced that it is formulating 18th round sanctions against Russia, focusing on targeting Russian energy revenue. The new round of sanctions will cover “Nord Stream” infrastructure, Russian banking sector, and further reductions in crude oil price caps.
