The French Public Health Agency released a bulletin on the 16th stating that,
From May 1st to July 15th this year, France has confirmed 12 local transmissions of Chikungunya fever, totaling 30 reported cases. Additionally, one case of dengue fever was identified.
The bulletin mentioned that these vector-borne diseases have affected several high-risk southern regions in the past, and for the first time, they have spread to the Greater Eastern region and the new Aquitaine region in the southwest. Data indicates that the risk of these viruses spreading locally in France is very high, and there may be more cases discovered in the upcoming period.
During the aforementioned period, France also faced pressure from imported cases from some of its overseas territories and possessions, including 799 cases of Chikungunya fever, 581 cases of dengue fever, and one case of Zika virus.
According to the World Health Organization, Chikungunya fever and dengue fever are both vector-borne diseases, with symptoms similar to each other, such as fever and body pain, which can be severe and lead to death.
