On July 16th, local time, Ukrainian President Zelensky revealed in a video address that evening that he had submitted documents to the Supreme Duma (parliament) nominating Shmyhal as the new Minister of Defense. Zelensky expressed that these appointments were clear and aimed at enhancing Ukraine’s military industrial strength.
Currently, about 40% of Ukraine’s domestically produced weapons are used in frontline operations and military activities, far exceeding any period since Ukraine’s independence. Despite significant growth in production, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine still needs to further expand its weapon capacity.
Zelensky made clear demands on the new government, stating that within the first six months after taking office, Ukraine should increase its use of its own weapons to 50%, and significantly enhance its weapon production capabilities. He also expressed confidence that this goal could be achieved.
