On the 17th local time, heavy rain fell across various parts of South Korea, with rainfall in many areas setting a new record for the region. By 23:00 local time, precipitation across South Korea had reached approximately 20 to 80 millimeters per hour. The heavy rains caused waterlogging of roads and buildings, leading to mudslides and landslides.
The continuous downpour has resulted in four deaths, over 2,700 people have been urgently evacuated, and railway, air, and maritime operations have been forced to cancel.
The Central Disaster and Safety Response Headquarters of South Korea stated that the government will mobilize all available resources to respond to the heavy rainfall.
