According to a report from Xinhua News Agency in New Delhi on July 17th, in response to recent media reports about the investigation into the crash of an Indian Airlines aircraft in June this year,
The Indian aviation accident investigation authority issued a statement on the 17th, stating that it is still too early to draw any definitive conclusions regarding the cause of the aircraft crash. Some international media should avoid spreading “unsound statements” that could harm the integrity of the investigation.
The statement mentioned that the investigation into the cause of the aircraft crash is being conducted “strictly and professionally.” However, some international media have repeatedly engaged in “selective and unverified reporting.” Such behavior is irresponsible, especially when the investigation is still ongoing.
The statement also emphasized that there should be no public anxiety or unease about India’s aviation industry safety at present.
On June 12th, shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India, an Indian Airlines Boeing 787-8 passenger plane crashed. According to Indian media reports, the crash resulted in 274 deaths, including 33 ground personnel. The preliminary investigation report released by the Indian aviation accident investigation authority on July 12th indicated that the two engines lost fuel supply shortly after takeoff.
The statement did not name which media made “selective and unverified reports,” but some Indian media mentioned the Wall Street Journal’s report on the same day. The Wall Street Journal reported that the voice recorder from the crashed aircraft showed that the captain suspectedly turned off the fuel switch for both engines.
