According to the WeChat official account of the Chinese Embassy in Hungary, negotiations on the China-Hungary extradition treaty took place in Budapest from July 14th to 16th, 2025. The Chinese delegation was led by Hu Bin, Deputy Director of the Department of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with participation from officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and the Ministry of Public Security. The Hungarian delegation was chaired by Ferman, Director of the International Criminal Law Division at the Ministry of Justice, with participation from officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Courts of the Capital Region.
The negotiations were conducted in a friendly and pragmatic atmosphere. After thorough consultations, both sides reached an agreement on all terms of the treaty and drafted the text. The treaty outlines the conditions and procedures for conducting extradition cooperation between China and Hungary, and its conclusion is beneficial for further improving the legal foundation for law enforcement and judicial cooperation between the two countries. Both parties agreed to expedite the completion of their domestic procedures and to promote the formal signing and ratification of the treaty as soon as possible.
