It has been reported that on the 19th local time, an official from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) stated that there are still three major issues to be resolved in the new round of ceasefire negotiations taking place in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The official mentioned that one of the main disputes currently under discussion is the issue of Israel withdrawing from Gaza during the proposed 60-day ceasefire period. The latest Israeli withdrawal plan submitted shows that the Israeli military will withdraw from the “Morawiyya Corridor” in southern Gaza. However, the width of the “buffer zone” established by the Israeli forces along the border of Gaza remains over 1 kilometer in some areas, meaning that the Israeli forces will continue to control about 20% of the land in Gaza. He indicated that the latest Israeli withdrawal plan has been adjusted compared to previous ones, and Hamas will respond positively. However, modifications will be made at certain Israeli military locations, and it is requested that the withdrawal plan clearly include the specific dates for the Israeli military’s gradual withdrawal until complete withdrawal from Gaza.
The official also mentioned that after the Israeli withdrawal issue is properly resolved, relevant parties will discuss the details of the exchange of detainees, including the list of Palestinian detainees released by Israel and the issue of the ratio of exchange. Furthermore, regarding humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, specific terms have not yet been determined, and further negotiation is needed on some details. He expressed that Hamas has responded positively to all agreement proposals put forward by the mediator. However, a change in Israeli stance has hindered the agreement’s achievement. He stated that if Israel responds positively, the negotiation process will accelerate.
Since June this month, Israel and Hamas have initiated a new round of indirect negotiations in Doha regarding the ceasefire and the exchange of detainees in the Gaza Strip. (CCTV Zhao Fangyuan)
