According to the official Weibo account of the National Marine Forecasting Center, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake occurred at 14:49 on July 20, 2025 (Beijing time), in the remote sea area off the eastern coast of Kamchatka (52.84°N, 160.69°E). The seismic depth was 15 kilometers. Based on preliminary seismic parameters, the Tsunami Warning Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources has judged that the earthquake might cause local tsunami around the epicenter, but it will not affect our country’s coastal areas. The center will continue to track and analyze the seismic and tsunami monitoring data and issue information in a timely manner.
