On July 20th, local time, the Department of Homeland Security announced on social media that an officer from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection was shot during a suspected robbery attempt in New York City on the evening of the 19th. The officer was not on duty at the time of the incident and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, where his condition is stable.
The Department of Homeland Security stated that the case involves two perpetrators, one of whom is an illegal immigrant who has been arrested for second- and third-degree assault and has been ordered deported. Currently, the New York Police Department is investigating this incident.
In response to the incident, President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform “Reality Social” on the afternoon of the 20th, stating that the officer shot by the illegal immigrant had his face hit by a bullet. The illegal immigrant was arrested at the border in April 2023 but was ultimately released instead of being deported. Trump remarked that Democrats have allowed criminals to flood into the United States, and now all these individuals must be expelled or prosecuted immediately under certain circumstances. (Liu Xu)
