[Report by Li Sa] The spokesperson for the United States Department of State, Tammy Bruce, announced on the 22nd that the United States has withdrawn from UNESCO. According to a recent report by Agence France-Presse, UNESCO’s Director General, Audrey Azoulay, expressed her deep regret over the decision of the United States to withdraw from the organization, but also stated that this move was not unexpected.
Azoulay remarked, “I am deeply disappointed by President Trump’s decision to withdraw the United States from UNESCO once again.” Furthermore, she mentioned, “Despite being regrettable, this announcement is anticipated and UNESCO has been prepared for it.”
The United States had previously withdrawn from UNESCO before rejoining. In October 2017, the U.S. State Department announced its withdrawal from UNESCO. By 2023, the United States had returned to the organization.
