Anna Pompeo, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida, has accused Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell of perjury and requested criminal charges against him, according to a report by Fox News on July 21st.
In her letter to the Department of Justice, Pompeo alleged that Powell had made false statements during two appearances before Congress. This accusation comes amid ongoing pressure from President Donald Trump and his allies to remove Powell from his position.
Pompeo detailed in her letter that Powell “made numerous substantive false statements” after taking an oath of office on June 25th when testifying about the renovation of the Federal Reserve building at the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. (Xinhua)
