Xinhua News Agency, Washington, July 22nd (Xiong Maoling) – On the 22nd of July, during a press conference with the media, U.S. President Donald Trump accused Democratic former President Barack Obama of “treason” and attempted “election theft.” Upon this accusation, Obama’s spokesperson immediately refuted it, labeling it as a “vile attempt to divert attention.”
During his visit to the Oval Office in the White House, Trump addressed questions about the case involving late American businessman Jeffrey Epstein when asked. He then shifted the focus to Obama, stating, “They tried to manipulate the election and were caught red-handed. They must be severely punished.”
Trump also mentioned that from the 2016 election onwards, the Democratic team, including Biden and Hillary Clinton, had been manipulating the election until 2020. “This is treason… they tried to steal the election.”
Obama’s spokesperson, Patrick Rodenbusch, stated in a declaration that out of respect for the presidency, the Obama office generally does not respond to “the relentless propaganda and false information” spread by this administration. However, he argued that the accusations were absurdly baseless and a “vile attempt to divert attention.”
Epstein was closely associated with numerous American politicians and business figures. After being arrested for alleged sexual crimes, he died in prison in August 2019, leading to an official suicide verdict.
During his campaign for president in 2024, Trump promised to release documents related to Epstein’s case upon taking office. However, on July 7th, the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a joint memorandum, declaring there was no “client list” and would not release any additional documents related to Epstein’s case. The shift in Trump’s stance regarding the matter has sparked discontent and skepticism within domestic American public opinion, including among his supporters. (End)
