On July 22nd, local time, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the Department of Justice should target former President Obama directly following the revelation by the intelligence community that the Obama administration had fabricated materials to smear Trump’s “Russian collusion” allegations.
During a question from reporters at the White House on the same day, Trump quickly shifted the conversation to topics such as former President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and whether Russia interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election investigation.
The office of former President Obama claimed that no documents released earlier by the Director of National Intelligence Office contained any evidence that weakened the conclusion that “Russia attempted to influence the 2016 election but failed to manipulate the vote.”
Trump claims Obama personally orchestrated the “Russia Hoax”
On July 21st, local time, President Trump posted on social media that former President Obama personally created the “Russia Hoax” (referring to the 2016 Trump accusation of being “Russia-linked”).
Trump also mentioned that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former President Biden, and many others were involved. He described it as a “century-old crime,” “solid proof,” posing a significant threat to the nation. However, as of now, Trump has not provided any evidence.
U.S. Intelligence Agencies: The Obama Administration Falsified Trump’s “Russia Hoax” Materials
On July 18th, the Director of National Intelligence Office issued a statement revealing evidence that showed then-President Obama and members of his national security cabinet attempted to undermine Trump’s victory in the presidential election by fabricating intelligence after Trump won the election.
The statement noted that the intelligence community reached a consensus in November 2016, believing that Russia had no intention or capability to interfere with the election. However, on December 9th, the White House convened senior members of the National Security Council to discuss Russia issues. Following the meeting, Assistant Clary sent an email requesting the intelligence community to provide a new assessment based on President Obama’s directives, detailing how Russia used tools and actions to influence the 2016 election. This task was led by the then Director of National Intelligence Office, with participation from the Central Intelligence Agency, FBI, NSA, and the Department of Homeland Security.
