U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated on July 23 that there is “no rush” to determine the successor to Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, with potential candidates potentially being current members of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) or regional bank governors.
Mnuchin mentioned during a TV program on Wednesday, “There are many strong candidates, including several key committee members, and possibly also regional bank governors.” He did not disclose specific names.
Reports indicate that Mnuchin himself, the Director of the National Economic Council at the White House, Haass, former Fed Board member Kevin Warsh, and current Fed Board member Waller are among the presidential nominees for the chairman position. Mnuchin said, “There’s a very long list.” He added, “I don’t intend to discuss this process, but we are moving forward with it. Clearly, it will be President Trump’s decision, and we are not in a hurry.” (Xinhua Finance)
