The U.S. government has implemented a stringent policy of deporting illegal immigrants since January this year, leading to a large number of arrests and deportations. Recently, American media revealed a video taken in an immigrant detention facility in New York, where the migrants claimed to be treated “like dogs.”
Look at how they treat us; we are treated like dogs here.
This is the condition inside the 10th floor of the Immigration Facility on 26 Federal Plaza in New York City. The footage provided by the photographer shows some people lying on the floor covered with blankets, while others sit on benches next to a toilet.
A New York immigration lawyer stated that such scenes are not unfamiliar to him. He has heard about the poor conditions within the immigration facilities multiple times.
Benjamin:
There’s no safe place to sleep, insufficient medical care. If there’s an emergency medical situation, they can’t get timely treatment, food is inadequate and of poor quality.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) claims that this is not an immigration detention center but a processing center where migrants wait for their case to be processed. They deny any allegations of overcrowding and poor conditions, stating that everyone receives appropriate food and medical care, and can communicate with their families and lawyers.
However, some migrant family members have expressed that their husband was held for five or six days before being transferred, and they were treated like animals.
He mentioned that the conditions were very poor, and they were treated like animals. They also lacked sufficient food. He had liver failure and required special diets and specific medications. But he never received any help from the immigration officials.
