Since January this year, the U.S. government has implemented a tough policy of deporting illegal immigrants, leading to a large number of arrests and deportations. Recently, American media exposed a video taken in an immigrant detention facility in New York, where the migrants claimed to be treated “like dogs.”
Look at how they treat us; we are treated like dogs here.
This is the situation inside the 10th floor of the immigration facility located on the 26th floor of the Federal Plaza Building in New York City. The footage provided by the camera shows some people lying on the floor, covered with blankets, while others sit on benches next to a toilet.
A New York immigrant lawyer stated that such scenes are not unfamiliar to him. He has heard about the poor conditions within immigration facilities multiple times.
Benjamin:
There’s no safe place to sleep, insufficient medical care. Once medical emergencies arise, they cannot receive timely treatment, food is inadequate, and its quality is poor.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) claims that this is not an immigration detention center but a processing center where immigrants wait for their case to be processed. They deny any allegations of overcrowding and poor conditions, stating that everyone received proper food and medical care, as well as communication with family members and lawyers.
However, some immigrant families have expressed that their husbands were held for five or six days before being transferred, and they were treated like animals.
He mentioned that the conditions were very poor, and they were treated like animals, lacking sufficient food. He also had hepatic failure requiring special diets and specific medications. However, he said he never got any help from immigration officials.
