On the 24th local time, the Russian emergency services reported that an An-24 passenger plane, carrying 49 people, had gone missing in Amur Oblast, a region in the Far East of Russia. The aircraft was carrying 43 passengers and 6 crew members, operating on the Hrabrovsk-Blagoveshchensk-Tanda route.
Later that day, the Russian emergency services stated that the crash site of the aircraft had been located. A Mi-8 helicopter involved in the search mission discovered the burning fuselage of the plane.
According to the Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office, the An-24 aircraft was conducting a second approach near the Tanda Airport, preparing to land when it went missing. Additionally, sources indicated that the aircraft did not issue any signals indicating an emergency during its flight.
The Russian aviation authorities mentioned that the aircraft, which is about 50 years old, has its airworthiness certificate extended until 2036.
The Federal Investigative Committee for Transportation of the Russian Federation stated that a criminal investigation into this matter has been initiated. (CCTV Wang Bin)
