The Department of Homeland Security in the United States has stated that undocumented immigrants may be subject to electronic ankle bracelets.

On July 24th, local time, Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, stated that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has ordered its staff to “do their utmost” to wear ankle restraints for all individuals participating in the agency’s “detention alternative program.” McLaughlin mentioned that individuals who are illegally residing in the United States may be “bound” by GPS ankle restraints.
