According to CCTV International News, a spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense stated today (July 26th) at a meeting that as the Cambodian-Thai border conflict enters its third day,
The Thai Navy deployed eight warships in the coastal waters of Kampong Cham Province.
The Thai Navy also reported this morning that new conflicts broke out along the coast of Tonle Sap Province—
The area is more than 100 kilometers away from other points of contention on the long-standing disputed border between the two countries.
During the meeting, the spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defense refuted the Thai side’s accusation that “Cambodia initiated the attack” and emphasized that “Cambodia is the victim and retains the right to retaliate.”
Additionally, according to Thai military sources, this afternoon,
The Thai Air Force dispatched two F-16 fighter jets and two EA-18G Growlers to bomb Cambodia.
The Thai military claimed that “Cambodian forces launched ballistic weapons attacks against Thai forces with the intent to seize the region.” Another target of the Thai military aircraft’s bombing was located in the Ta Moun Anto Temple area, which is said to be a “camouflage artillery position and troop deployment point for the Cambodian military, which unleashed fire on Thailand without distinction.”
On July 24th, clashes occurred between Cambodia and Thailand in the border area, with both sides accusing each other of violating international law. On the morning of July 26th local time,
Thailand and Cambodia exchanged fire again in the border area between the two countries.
According to data from the Thai government and military on July 26th,
The Cambodian-Thai border conflict has resulted in 20 deaths in Thailand, including 13 civilians and 7
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation of the Interior Ministry of Thailand announced on July 26th that the current conflict has affected over 500,000 people.
On July 26th, local time, a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office of Thailand denied claims made by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Ma Na about a previous agreement on a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. On the 25th, Hun Ma Na stated in a social media post that after talks between the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Anwar, and the acting Prime Minister of Thailand, Phatak, on the evening of the 24th,
the Cambodian side received preliminary responses indicating that the Thai side agreed to a ceasefire, setting the midnight of July 24, 2025, as the ceasefire time. However, just over an hour later, the Thai side notified that it disagreed with the ceasefire.
Phatak indeed received the ceasefire proposal and agreed to make a decision after assessing the situation in Thailand’s seven border provinces. Subsequently, Thai security forces reported that Cambodian troops had not de-escalated tensions but instead were continuously reinforcing their positions and attacking civilian areas within Thailand. As a result, Phatak once again called on Anwar,
his actions still posing a serious threat to Thailand.
Jirayu stated that the root cause lies in Cambodia’s continuous deployment of troops and unjustifiable attacks on civilian areas, which constitute war crimes. He mentioned that Cambodian forces are currently consolidating their forces along the Ubon Ratchathani-Tha Saphan Phutthamonthone route from northeastern Thailand to southern Thailand, posing a significant threat to Thailand’s sovereignty. He also noted that
Hun Ma Na’s statements on social media are not true.
Jirayu added that the Thai government appreciates the ceasefire proposal from the ASEAN Chair State and is willing to consider it under appropriate conditions, but Cambodian forces continue their indiscriminate attacks.
Any ceasefire agreement must be based on realistic premises, always prioritizing the safety of people. Jirayu stated that Cambodian actions lack sincerity, and the Thai government will resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.
On July 26th, local time,
Department firmly refuted claims regarding Cambodia’s first violation or invasion of Thailand, stating these claims are false and urged the Thai side to disclose specific locations or places where Cambodia allegedly violated Thai sovereignty.
The spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defence, Mary Shue Jie Da, stated that at present, Cambodia is a victim of Thailand’s invasion, not an “aggressor” as some false reports have distorted it. The Cambodian side reserves the right to retaliate, aiming solely to defend its national sovereignty and territory. The Cambodian Ministry of Defence also emphasized that the Cambodian military adheres to the principle of attacking only Thai military targets and refrains from attacking civilians, and has thus far firmly upheld the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country without losing any land.
Earlier on the same day, the Royal Thai Army Intelligence Bureau sent formal letters to the United States, China, Russia, and 26 other countries through their foreign military attachés,
claiming that Cambodian forces had initiated the initial attack and targeted Thai civilians, communities, and hospitals, severely infringing upon Thailand’s sovereignty.
Armed clashes between the two countries
According to Xinhua News Agency, sources from the Lao People’s Army revealed on the afternoon of the 26th that some media claims about “Lao People’s Army and Cambodian armed personnel engaging in combat” were untrue. The authoritative Lao military media outlet, the People’s Army Daily, stated that they had not received any related notifications.
News reports indicated that Laos stated that there was no actual combat between the Lao and Cambodian forces, nor did Laos arrest illegally crossing Cambodian armed personnel.
The spokesperson for the Cambodian Ministry of Defence, Mary Shue Jie Da, also stated that the incident never occurred.
Earlier media reports mentioned that the Lao military issued an emergency notice on the 26th stating that the Lao army engaged in intense combat with several illegally crossing Cambodian armed personnel, detaining 10 individuals and confiscating weapons, accompanied by a screenshot of a statement. However, this screenshot was actually a screenshot of a statement issued by the Special Forces of the Military Police of Champasak Province on the 25th, which mainly stated, “During the period of July 24th to 25th when the Thai and Cambodian armies engaged in combat, 10 shells fell into Lao territory. It is currently unclear which party fired them.”
