On July 28th, local time, U.S. President Donald Trump, who was visiting Scotland in the UK, expressed his deep disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump also mentioned that
he is reducing the previously set deadline of 50 days for Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement.
Trump questioned whether Putin was willing to reach an agreement.
Trump had already publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Putin on multiple occasions before this.
On the 14th of this month, President Trump announced a statement concerning Russia. He stated that if Russia does not reach a peace agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, the United States will impose “very strict” tariffs on Russia. A White House official later clarified to the media that Trump’s intention was to impose a 100% tariff on Russia if it fails to reach an agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, and to impose secondary tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil.
