On July 28th, local time, U.S. President Donald Trump, who is visiting Scotland, expressed his deep disappointment towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump also mentioned that he was reducing the previously set deadline of 50 days for Russia and Ukraine to reach an agreement.
Trump had already publicly expressed his dissatisfaction with Putin multiple times before this.
On the 14th of this month, President Trump announced a statement concerning Russia, stating that if Russia does not reach a peace agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, the United States will impose “very strict” tariffs on Russia. A White House official later clarified to the media that Trump’s intention was to impose a 100% tariff on Russia if it fails to reach an agreement with Ukraine within 50 days, as well as secondary tariffs on countries purchasing Russian oil.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has drawn in various power struggles.
