On the evening of July 28th, local time, it was learned from Israeli sources that
the Israeli cabinet is considering a comprehensive military occupation of the Gaza Strip
and simultaneously intensifying its siege of certain city centers in the region.
According to Israel’s Channel 12, during the limited security cabinet meeting held that evening, the topics discussed included the possibility of occupying or siege-ing the Gaza Strip or cities where the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) is active. Israeli officials also considered cutting off the electricity supply to the Gaza Strip.
Regarding ceasefire negotiations with Hamas, a senior security official stated, “The United States needs to bring weapons and force Qatar to make a choice between Hamas’ interests and its own. The United States is the only actor capable of bringing Hamas back to the negotiating table. If it does not act, the situation will remain unchanged.”
Since June 6th, Israel and Hamas have engaged in a new round of indirect negotiations on the ceasefire and exchange of detainees in the Gaza Strip in Doha. On the 24th, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office and Witcove announced respectively that, due to Hamas’ response to the ceasefire proposal, the US and Israel have recalled their personnel involved in the ceasefire negotiations in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
