Media: Continuous Bombardment Reveals Israel’s Aspiration for Occupation
According to analysis by Israeli media, despite the Gaza Strip becoming a desolate wasteland, Israel continues to refuse to give up and repeatedly escalates its military actions. There are several main reasons behind this.
Aiming to Maintain Pressure on Hamas Through Military Operations
In this round of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Israel has almost never ceased its military operations in Gaza, yet it has been unable to achieve its declared military objective—the complete eradication of Hamas. If action were to cease, Hamas would quickly regroup. Israel can only maintain its pressure on Hamas through continuous large-scale offensives.
Aspiring to Make Gaza “Israel’s Permanent Territory”
The development of extreme right-wing political forces in Israel has been rapid and significant. The Finance Minister of Israel, Moshe Smotrich, recently disclosed that he had discussed with senior military officials the plan to annex parts of Gaza, stating explicitly that they aim to make Gaza “Israel’s permanent territory”; the Heritage Minister Elihu said that Israel’s goal is to “make all of Gaza belong to Jews”; and the Israeli Parliament passed a motion overwhelmingly supporting the implementation of sovereignty over the West Bank of Jordan, including Gaza.
Sources have reported that the ongoing bombardment by the Israeli army aims to render Gaza uninhabitable, creating a security vacuum and a survival dilemma, forcing the residents of Gaza to migrate until they leave the area.
Overall, Israel’s insistence on military operations in Gaza stems from its operational dilemma, domestic political needs, and strategic policy considerations. Although its actions have received military support and political endorsement from the United States, they have also faced widespread and intense criticism and resistance from the United Nations and the international community. It can be said that Israel’s expansionist policy faces multiple risks, and its goals may prove difficult to achieve.
