As reported by The Hill, Trump expressed on his presidential jet “Air Force One” that “I think I probably won’t go. I really want to go, but I don’t think I will.” He added, “I think maybe I’ll send someone else. There are so many issues.”
Agence France-Presse noted that since Trump took office as president in January, relations between the United States and South Africa have continued to deteriorate.
On May 21st, during a meeting with visiting South African President Ramaphosa at the White House, Trump suddenly showed some videos and clips accusing South Africa of “ethnic cleansing against white people.” In response, Ramaphosa immediately denied these claims and pointed out that Trump’s statements about “white people fleeing violence” and “racist laws” were unfounded.
At this significant summit, Trump announced his potential absence.
