Around 10:17 AM local time on July 30th, the Japan Meteorological Agency announced that the first tsunami wave had arrived in Gondo, Hokkaido. The maximum tsunami height observed was approximately 0.3 meters.
Earlier that day, the Japan Meteorological Agency stated that due to a strong earthquake near the Kamchatka Peninsula, waves of up to 3 meters were expected in some areas, prompting a “high alert”. Tsunami warnings have been issued across 17 regions nationwide.
The China Earthquake Network Center officially determined that at 7:24 AM Beijing time (10:24 AM local time on July 30th), a 7.9 magnitude earthquake occurred off the east coast of Kamchatka (latitude 52.40 degrees north, longitude 160.20 degrees east), with a depth of 10 kilometers.
