According to Japan Broadcasting Corporation, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga stated that the Prime Minister’s official residence is currently verifying the impact of the tsunami. “Residents in areas affected by the tsunami alert should immediately seek refuge in safe locations such as high-rise buildings.”
Additionally, Kyodo News reported that the Japanese Ministry of Defense has dispatched self-defense forces aircraft, patrol planes, and helicopters towards the Pacific Ocean to gather information about the tsunami. The Japan Meteorological Agency had earlier issued a tsunami warning, stating that many areas along the Pacific coast are expected to experience waves up to approximately 3 meters high, urging local residents to “immediately seek shelter.”
A strong earthquake occurred far off the east coast of Kamchatka.
