On July 29th, local time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had a phone conversation. Zelensky announced this news on his official social media platform and stated that the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on various topics including military assistance to Ukraine, the construction of Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, sanctions against Russia, and domestic anti-corruption legislation.
Zelensky mentioned that the focus of the discussion was on Ukraine’s urgent needs for weapons and equipment, particularly enhancing its air defense capabilities by increasing the number of air defense systems and missiles. Additionally, the two sides also discussed recent negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul. Zelensky reiterated that the Ukrainian delegation once again emphasized the necessity of achieving a ceasefire, with Ukraine still awaiting a response from Russia regarding the proposal for holding a high-level meeting.
