On July 31, according to Beijing Youth Sports, the Winter Olympics Biathlon champion, Darmelle, tragically died in a mountain climbing accident at the age of 31.
Her team shared on social media: “We bid farewell to Laura, who enriched many lives with her warm and straightforward attitude. She taught us that everyone should take action for their dreams.”
It is reported that Darmelle suffered severe injuries during an avalanche incident while climbing Lara Peak, and due to adverse weather conditions, the rescue team was unable to quickly carry out the rescue operation.
Laura Darmelle, born on August 22, 1993, in Germany, is a female biathlete.
Darmelle won both the 7.5km sprint and the 10km pursuit at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.
On February 10, 2018, Laura Darmelle clinched the championship title in the women’s 7.5km short distance event at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics with a time of 21 minutes and 6.2 seconds.
On February 12, 2018, Laura Darmelle secured the championship title in the women’s 10km pursuit final at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics with a time of 30 minutes and 35.3 seconds.
On February 15, 2018, Laura Darmelle finished third in the women’s 15km individual race at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics with a time of 41 minutes and 48.4 seconds.
