Cailian Press, July 30th – Due to a technical issue at a key air traffic control center in London, flights entering and exiting the city were temporarily disrupted. Heathrow Airport, the busiest airport in the UK and Europe, also experienced disruptions with both takeoffs and landings halted. Gatwick Airport announced that “no flights are currently departing until the issue is resolved.” Smaller London city airports also faced operational disturbances. The main air traffic control center, NATS Swanwick, stated that engineers had completed repairs after the system failure in the afternoon and are now “restoring normal operations in the London area.” NATS mentioned, “We will continue to closely collaborate with airlines and airport customers to minimize disruptions.” A spokesperson for Heathrow Airport reported that the airport’s inbound and outbound flights have resumed. This marks another major flight operation disruption at Heathrow Airport following a power outage caused by a substation fire that left the airport paralyzed for several days earlier this year.
