Thai Royal Army reported on July 30 the meeting between Malaysian Armed Forces Commander Muhyiddin Nizar and Thai military officials.
The Thai military stated that Muhyiddin Nizar met with commanders of Thailand’s First and Second Military Regions on July 29 and 30, respectively, to understand the situation at the Thai-Cambodian border and support the establishment of an “ASEAN Watch Group” and a “Diplomatic Assistant Team” to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire.
Malaysia called for three key points: immediate cessation of hostilities, prohibition of further troop deployments, and strengthening of humanitarian aid. It also suggested that Thailand and Cambodia maintain informal communication to foster mutual trust. Malaysia reiterated its willingness to act as an intermediary in mediating peace, and Thailand welcomed this offer and expressed its readiness to fully cooperate.
During a press conference on July 30, Malaysian Defense Ministry spokesperson Malyuthithida said that a delegation from Malaysia would be deployed at the Cambodian-Thai border to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire. (Report by Li Min and Xue Jing, CCTV)
Conflicts between Cambodia and Thailand began on July 24, with both sides accusing each other of violating international law. Under the chairmanship of Malaysia, the Prime Minister of ASEAN, Anwar Ibrahim, Cambodia and Thailand held talks on July 28 and agreed to immediately and unconditionally cease hostilities starting from midnight on July 24, ending the ongoing border conflict between the two countries for several days. Thailand and Cambodia also agreed to convene a joint committee meeting on the border on August 4, organized by Cambodia.
