On August 2nd, local time, the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement emphasizing that “we cannot cease our armed resistance unless our national rights are fully restored, most importantly, an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.”
The statement declared that as long as Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory persists, the resistance movement and its armed means are legitimate rights for the Palestinian people. This position has been recognized by international conventions.
