On August 1st, local time, in response to the United States government’s announcement of sanctions and visa restrictions against certain members of the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), UN Secretary-General Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq addressed questions regarding
the UN’s expectation that the United States continues to fulfill its legal obligations under the “Host Country Agreement” as a host country, ensuring that personnel related to UN operations can enter the United States.
Regarding the US accusations that certain Palestinian members “support terrorism and undermine peace efforts,” Haq clearly responded, “This is not our observation of the Palestinian Authority.” He emphasized,
The Palestinian Authority is recognized by the international community as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
Earlier, the US government announced sanctions on certain members of the Palestinian Authority and the PLO, labeling them as “supporters of terrorism and underminers of peace efforts.”
